Social adaptation is the adjustment of individual and group behavior to modify to norms and values in a given society, class, or social group. Many times along with social adaptation comes code-switching. Code-switching can be interpreted in many ways. One form of code-switching is alternating from two or more languages. Another common form of code-switching is to act or talk more like those around you. Social adaptation has occurred for decades and continues to occur in our everyday lives. We do it all of the time. People are constantly changing their personalities in order to adapt to others. This can affect a person's identity and persona. Many times people get caught up between their “two worlds” and get confused with who they are and have a loss of identity.
Social adaptation started due to discrimination and colonization. |
