In class we developed a historical overview of both 1968 and the Vietnam War. Through documentaries, presentations and discussions, we critically analyzed the impact this year had on civil rights, foreign policy and conflict and the way people organize themselves to create social change. We conducted an original academic research on an aspect of 1968 and traced its impact in our society today. For our final projected we were given the opportunity to exhibit a project on the historical moment we wrote our papers on or a new moment in the form of an oral history project or interview, art/video project or a community action project such as a mural or community event.
For my research paper I explored the historical content of Paris in 1968 and how the Vietnam War inspired the uprising of France. However, for my final project I wanted to exhibit on feminism and how women's history has impacted our our communities today. My partner and I connected the Women's Right Movement in 1968 to today's relevance. We discussed the drastic changes that have occurred due to these Movements in the past such as abortion laws and new beauty pageant rules. I was very passionate about this project because there are many women in our communities who have been affect and suppress due to being female. For our exhibit we exhibited a college/painting that we created highlighting the important women in our history and today. We also made pins with the print to the right that I designed on Illustrator and hanged them out to our visitors and peers. |
